FORM THE DESERT — Stream of Life
Stream of Life explores a sustainable modular dwelling model designed for contemporary Emirati families and demanding desert conditions.
The project begins at the scale of the neighbourhood. Instead of treating each house as an isolated object, the concept creates a connected residential fabric with shaded passages, courtyards, shared green areas and communal spaces. The goal is to support both privacy and social interaction — two essential qualities of family life.
Each home is designed as a flexible system. Modular units can expand and adapt over time, allowing the house to grow with the family while maintaining a consistent architectural identity across the entire block.
Sustainability is integrated into the architectural concept from the beginning. The design combines prefabricated concrete sandwich panels, adobe stucco finishes, green roofs, solar protection and rainwater harvesting.
Passive cooling plays a key role. Inspired by traditional Emirati architecture, the project reinterprets windcatchers, qanat-based underground air and water flows, water circulation and floor convection to improve comfort and reduce energy demand.
The result is a housing concept that is efficient, adaptable and deeply connected to place.
A house that embraces the past, lives in the present and adapts to the future.
